Head of many national and international research projects: Thematic FAPESP/Pronex, Universal-CNPq, and Brazil-France Cooperation. Member of “Comitê Assessor” for Mathematics of CNPq and CAPES (many times) and member of CTC of IMPA.

2. Yoshiharu Kohayakawa – vice coordinator (NUMEC and IME-USP)

Professor at IME-USP. Researcher level 1A of CNPq. Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Managing Editor of Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B (Elsevier). Member of the editorial boards of Random Structures & Algorithms (Wiley), Combinatorics, Probability & Computing (Cambridge University Press) and SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics (2003–2008). Co-organized (with Imre Simon) Paul Erdos’s only visit to Brazil. Head of many national and international projects (PRONEX (1997 and 2003), Thematic projects FAPESP, Universal-CNPq, CAPES/DAAD, CNPq/NSF). Member of the area coordination of Mathematics and Computer Science of FAPESP (1999–2004); member of “Comitê Assessor” (grants committee) for Computer Science of CNPq
(1998–2001, and 2009–2012). His main research interests are in combinatorics and theoretical computer science. He believes that the beautiful and rich areas of combinatorics, complexity theory and design and analysis of algorithms should be brought to bear on the major scientific challenges that will be tackled under this research project.

3. Oswaldo Luiz do Valle Costa – EP-USP

Professor at the Polytechnic Engeneering School of USP. Researcher level 1A of CNPq. Associated Editor of the International Journal of Systems Science. Has supervised 29 Master students and 11 PhD students. Author of two books (one from Springer). His works has more than 1035 citations at ISI; has H-index 16. Research area: industrial electronics, stochastic control, systems with Markovian jumps, financial models and Markov chains.

4. Pablo Ferrari – NUMEC, IME-USP and UBA

Professor at IME-USP (currently on leave). Researcher level 1A of CNPq (until 2009, on leave), Professor at the University of Buenos Aires. Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Guggenhein Foundation Fellowship (1990) and Prize of Distinguished Research at IME-USP (1993). Member of the editorial board of Annals of Probability (2003–2006), Probability Theory and Related Fields (2008–2010), Journal of Statistical Physics (desde 2011), Revista de Matem áticas Aplicadas (1995–2009), Electronic Journal of Probability (1996–2006), MPEJ (Austin, Tex, desde 2002), Alea (Online, since 2006), Revista Brasileira de Probabilidade e Estatística (1994–2000).
